Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all. Church History This Place of Worship was founded in 1878, and we understand it is still open. Whaley Thorns is very close to the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border. It is nearer to the villages of Nether Langwith (Nottinghamshire) and Upper Langwith (Derbyshire), but until 1924 when it became a separate parish, it was part of the parish of Bolsover, one of four 'daughter' churches of St Mary's. Kelly's Directory of 1932 records it with Bolsover, describing it as a large mining hamlet and ecclesiastical parish, five miles east of Bolsover; it also states that St Luke's was built in 1878. Its postal address today is Mansfield. Denomination Now or formerly Church of England. If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
