Cemeteries

We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1901, and we understand it is still open.

Hasland Methodist Church's first appearance on Old Maps is in 1918, where it is labelled as "P.M. Methodist". In 1962, when there were still 3 Methodist Churches in Hasland it was distinguished from the others as "Hasland Road Methodist Church".

The following notice published in The London Gazette of 7th May 1901 (p.3139) indicates its registration for marriages:

NOTICE is hereby given, that a separate building named Primitive Methodist Church, situated at Hasland, in the civil parish of Hasland, in the county of Derby, in the registration district of Chesterfield, being a building certified according to law as a place of meeting for religious worship, was on the 1st day of May, 1901, duly registered for solemnizing marriages therein, pursuant to the Act of 6th and 7th Wm. 4, c.85, being substituted for Primitive Methodist Chapel, Hasland, now disused. Dated 2nd May 1900.

The building it replaced was "Hasland Chapel", on Chapel Street, for which see the separate entry in this database.

Denomination

Now or formerly Primitive Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
