Church History

This Cemetery or Burial Ground was founded in 1891, and we understand it is still open.

Kelly's Directory of 1912 records that a cemetery of 4½ acres, in Roger Lane, was opened in 1891. It was then managed by a Burial Board of six members, representing the Alfreton ward. There was a mortuary chapel, labelled on Old Maps of 1937 as "Gen." (presumably "General").

Derbyshire Record Office hold registers of burials in the Cemetery for the period 1891-1979.

Note: Rodgers Lane was originally named "Cemetery Road". The Mortuary Chapel is now the Alfreton & District Heritage Centre. [Source: Archaeological Assessment Report for Alfreton, available on the Amber Valley Borough Council website]
