We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1765, and we understand it is still open.

John Wesley preached in the 'new house at Creitch' on 25th March 1766. Non-Conformist Chapels and Meeting Houses, Derbyshire (1986), says the chapel is of this period, though was re-roofed in 1905. It also says that the interior (38¾ft by 26¾ft) "has a gallery around three sides with numbered seating of the early 19th century" whilst the pulpit is of late 18th century. An interesting building, partly hidden from the main road by some luxuriant vegetation.

The Crich Area Community News website confirms it was built in 1765, and that John Wesley preached here in 1766 and 1770.

There is a photograph on Steve Bulman's Churches of Britain and Ireland website (under Derbyshire => Crich), and a smaller one on the Borders Mission Circuit website, of which it is a part.

Now or formerly Wesleyan Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

This Church is located at OS grid reference SK3504953696. You can see this on various mapping systems. Note all links open in a new window:

(NB I know the first two don't work as intended - the Jury's still out as to what to do about it...)

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Crich, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.
