Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1874, but we understand it was closed in 1974.

Though Derbyshire Record Office's Non-Conformist Register Guide says this chapel closed in 1974, it is still shown as a place of worship on my OS Map of 1979; however there is no uncertainty that it is now closed, and believed to be demolished. The plot it stood on was on the upward (north) side of the field boundary, still present on the opposite side of the road, as per a detailed OS Map of 1898-9, labelled as a Methodist Chapel, but today (2010) several modern house occupy the spot.

Denomination

Now or formerly Wesleyan Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
