Cemeteries

This Church has (or had) a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1899, and we understand it is still open.

There is a photograph of Brackenfield Methodist Church on the Geograph website. It is situated - literally - on the Village Green, approached by a drive across a wide common area. It is of red brick, with a pair of matching round-arched windows at the front, and an entrance at the side. There is a stone plaque above the windows, which according to the Chesterfield and District Family History website reads "United Free Methodist Chapel", so no indication when it was built; however Kelly's Directory of 1932 provides a date of 1899.

Derbyshire Record Office's Non-Conformist Register Guide includes a register of baptisms for Brackenfield "Free Methodist Chapel" for the period 1904-1990.

Denomination

Now or formerly Free/United Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
