We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1815, and we understand it is still open.

"Brown brick and slate, with shaped gable and tablet dated 1815; hung sashes to front windows, replaced since 1970. Square interior, gallery around three sides, with original seating, lower pews renewed in late 19th century, rostrum pulpit." [Source: Non-Conformist Chapels and Meeting Houses, Derbyshire (1986)]

It is also a Grade II Listed Building - see the British Listed Buildings website for details. The latter further describes the interior as having "U-plan gallery supported on five cast iron columns. Later 19th century raised preaching platform with iron railings. Plain open benches. A pair of stick baluster staircases lead up to the gallery."

Now or formerly Wesleyan Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

This Church is located at OS grid reference SK3539324054. You can see this on various mapping systems. Note all links open in a new window:

(NB I know the first two don't work as intended - the Jury's still out as to what to do about it...)

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Ticknall, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.
