Cemeteries

This Church had a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1845, but we understand it was closed in 1972.

Said to be built in the style of c.1600. There is a basement story with an outer doorway and three windows between two-staged buttresses on the east side. The chapel above has stone-mullioned windows in the gabled north and south ends only, the former of three lights with a transom, and the latter of three lights with a raised transom centre. The entrance is a gabled porch at the south end. It was closed in 1972, and it is now the Village Hall. [Source: Non-Conformist Chapels and Meeting Houses, Derbyshire, 1986]

Denomination

Now or formerly Congregational.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
