Cemeteries

This Church has (or had) a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1859, and we understand it is still open.

Described in The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868) as a district church of Trusley All Saints, Christ Church is now a Grade II Listed Building - see the British Listed Buildings website for details, where it is recorded with Trusley.

According to Derbyshire Record Office's catalogue of Church of England Registers it became a parish church in 1860, when the parish of Long Lane was created from parts of Sutton on the Hill, Brailsford, and Trusley. Kelly's Directory of 1932 records "Long Lane" with the parish of Sutton on the Hill, when it was said to include Osleston, 1 mile north east and Thurvaston, 2 miles north, a joint township. The living was united with the rectory of Dalbury, with residence, in the gift of R. de T. Sneyd esq and the vicar of Sutton on the Hill alternately, and had been held since 1910 by the Rev. John Joseph Wardale B.A. of Jesus College Cambridge, who was also rector, and resided at Dalbury.

Denomination

Now or formerly Church of England.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

Resources

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Trusley, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.

The above links were selected and reviewed at the time I prepared the information, but please be aware their content may vary, or disappear entirely. These factors are outside my control.

You can further refine your search by supplying other search terms.

Please note the above provides a search of selected fields in the Derbyshire section of the Places of Worship Database on this site (churchdb.gukutils.org.uk) only. For other counties, or for a full search of the Database, you might like to try the site's Google Custom Search, which includes full webpage content.
