Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1901, but we understand it was closed after 1975.

This is now the Royal British Legion headquarters in Shirebrook, but it still looks like a church! The building at this position is marked as a Congregational Church on Old Maps, for example OS 1917-1918 1:2,500. It is also mentioned in Derbyshire Record Office's Non-Conformist Register Guide as becoming subsequently the United Reformed Church. The Record Office holds its registers for the period 1901-1975.

Denomination

Now or formerly Congregational.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
