Church History

This Cemetery or Burial Ground was founded in 1864, and we understand it is still open.

The Cheltenham Cemetery & Crematorium is maintained by the Cheltenham Borough Council. Those looking for information about relatives who may have been buried in the Cheltenham area may also wish to be aware that there is a smaller Cemetery in Charlton Kings, also administered by the Council, which opened in 1919.

The following information about the Cemetery has been provided to accompany the photographs on the right. A list of people who have supplied the information is included in the Acknowledgements, below.

[Image 1] “Bouncer's Lane Cemetery is a mid-19th-century cemetery with later extensions. The grounds are spaciously laid out with a wide grassed promenade and serpentine paths, giving an open aspect. There are specimen planting of Douglas Fir and Scots Pine…”.[1]

[1] A detailed account of the Cemetery's history may be found on the Parks & Gardens UK website.[1]
