Cemeteries

We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1888, and we understand it is still open.

The original name for this place of worship was "The Iron Room". Kelly's Directory of 1923 says "it has a library and reading room, and is also used for religious services and meetings of various kinds". The entry also notes it was built by "Miss Morgan of Boughspring". According to the website of the Tidenham Historical Group this would have referred to the daughters of Christiana Morgan, Sophia and Emily, all of whom were very active in the Temperance Movement. Christiana also founded the Memorial Hall at Woodcroft in memory of her husband Thomas Henry Morgan.

There is further information of the church's history on the Stroat Evangelical Church website.

Just for the record, Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010) list the congregation of this church as "Christians not otherwise designated".

Denomination

Now or formerly Evangelical.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
