Cemeteries

We believe the Chapel did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded after 1851, but we understand it was closed before 1901, and the premises are now in secular use.

Old Maps of 1884-1885 indicate this Chapel was situated at the far end of Friday Street, but it appears to have had a limited life, as by 1901, the building is marked as a Parish Room. In the present day, it can be seen to be a small, attractive building, with a front of three bays. The centre bay has two tall windows on either side of a central doorway, with canopy, whilst the side bays each have a pair of similar windows. Above the door is a sign reading "Heaven Well Being Centre".

It was not recorded on the 1851 Religious Census.

Denomination

Now or formerly Primitive Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
