Cemeteries

We believe the Church does/did not NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

We don't know when this Place of Worship was founded, and we don't know whether or not it is still open.

This place of worship first came to my attention in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010), where it is listed with a congregation of "Christians not otherwise designated".

The Vassall Centre offers Conference facilities and Meeting Rooms for a variety of organisations, especially those catering for the disabled. It was set up in the late 1990s in accomodation which was erected originally as a rehabilitation centre for wounded American servicemen during World War II. In common with many groups of "temporary" buildings erected at that time, it consists of several cross-spurs of single-storey "small office blocks" united by a central spur. They were built of either brick, or breeze-block, the latter often painted white, and had flat roofs. Advantages originally were that they were fast, and cheap to erect, and any internal partitioning could be changed at will; however obviously they do have a limited life-span, and many of them have now been demolished, so it is likely the Centre will eventually be sold, and the land it stood on redeveloped.

The Trust, which administers the Centre, was founded by David Hiatt Baker (1920-2001). See the websites davidhiattbaker.com and The Vassall Centre for further information.

Denomination

Now or formerly Christians.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
