Church History

This Cemetery or Burial Ground was founded in 1883, and we understand it is still open.

Avonview Cemetery is under the control of Bristol City Council, and administered from Canford Cemetery and Crematorium Office, Canford Lane, Westbury on Trym, Bristol, BS9 3PQ.

According to the Bristol & Avon Family History Society, the Cemetery opened in 1883.

John Latimer, in his The Annals of Bristol in the Nineteenth Century (Conclusion, 1901) records that Handel Cossham, M.P. colliery owner, and local benefactor, was buried here on 28th April 1890. On April 23rd he was "seized with illness in the House of Commons, and died in about two hours... his funeral, which took place at Avon View cemetery, St George's... occasioned a public demonstration of unprecedented magnitude in the district"

Denomination
