Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded before 1855, though it is now closed, but we don't yet know when.

The earliest appearance of St Augustine's Hall I've been able to locate is the Ashmead Maps of Bristol of 1855. It is shown as a very large building, on the north-east side of the junction of Orchard Lane with Gaunt's Lane, facing towards the continuation of Gaunt's Lane. I have, however, been unable to find any reference to it as St Augustine's Church Hall - indeed, Kelly's Directory of Bristol of 1902 records it as a bonded warehouse, with Ford & Canning as proprietors.

The building at this location in the present day could easily be the original, as it looks old, though as it does not appear to be Listed, I have been unable to discover anything more about it, other that it is now the offices of Veale Wasbrough Vizards, a law firm.

Denomination

Now or formerly Church of England.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
