Cemeteries

We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded by 1995, and we understand it is still open.

Woodlands Church (the Woodlands Christian Centre) meet in the former St Mary the Virgin's Church, situated on the south-west corner of the junction of Belgrave Road and Woodland Road. It is listed in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010) with a congregation belonging to the Evangelical Free Church.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 15th November 1995 (p.15446) recorded its registration for marriages:

A Building certified for worship named WOODLANDS CHRISTIAN CENTRE, Belgrave Road, Clifton, in the registration district of Bristol in the Non-Metropolitan County of Avon, was on 8th November 1995 registered for solemnising marriages therein pursuant to section 41 of the Marriage Act 1949 as amended by section 1(1) of the Marriage Acts Amendment Act 1958.. Dated 9th November 1995.

St Mary the Virgin's Church was closed in 1976, declared redundant, and allocated for use as storage, after which it was used by the BBC for some years, until once again assigned for ecclesiastical purposes. Further details may be found elsewhere in this database.

Denomination

Now or formerly Evangelical Free.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
