We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded by 1935, and we understand it is still open.

Knowle West Baptist Church is an almost square building, built of red brick, with a sand-coloured frieze just below roof level, which has a circular motif at each corner. A wide porch at the front mirrors the design of the main building, and features small square windows just beneath its frieze. Windows in the sides are rectangular, and arranged into groups of 2 or 3.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 22nd March 1935 (p.1996) recorded its registration for marriages:

A Separate Building, duly certified for religious worship, named KNOWLE WEST BAPTIST CHURCH, situated at Newry Walk, in the civil parish of Bristol, in Long Ashton registration district, in the county borough of Bristol, was, on the 18th March, 1935, registered for solemnizing marriages therein, pursuant to 6 & 7 Will. IV, c.85. Dated 19th March 1935.

In recent years, the Baptists in Knowle West have joined forces with the Anglicans, forming a partnership with St Barnabas's Church, in Daventry Road, and Holy Cross, at Inns Court. As a consequence, Knowle West Baptist Church now functions mainly as the partnership's Community Centre. Its activities include a monthly community breakfast, a drop-in for the unemployed, various other social activities, and - last, but not least - adult baptisms by immersion.
