This Church has (or had) a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1510, and we understand it is still open.

The original foundation of this church was as the gateway chapel of the Cistercian Flaxley Abbey, which was founded in 1150. It became the parish church following the Dissolution.

The present church is a rebuilding in 1856, to a design by George Gilbert Scott, though inside are preserved monuments from the original chapel, including those to members of the Boeveys, a Dutch family, who purchased Flaxley Abbey in 1648. Now or formerly Church of England.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
