This Church has (or had) a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in the 11th century, and we understand it is still open.

St Bartholomew's Church is a Grade I Listed Building - see the British Listed Buildings website for details. According to their account, north and south doorways, and the chancel arch suggest a pre-conquest origin, though they date the church in its present form as mid or late 11th century.

The War Memorial records the following dedication:

To the Glory of God
and in grateful memory of
Arthur Cecil BRIDGEMAN
Benjamin Edwin Percy HAYWARD
William Edward TRINDER
Albert John WILLIAMS
Who gave their lives in the Great War
1914 - 1919.
"The glory died not, through the grief is past"

Some of the memorials in the graveyard have small metal plaques on them, which may reproduce original inscriptions, long since eroded. The date when these plaques were added is unknown.

Now or formerly Church of England.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

The above links were selected and reviewed at the time I prepared the information, but please be aware their content may vary, or disappear entirely. These factors are outside my control.
