We believe the Chapel does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1888, and we understand it is still open.

A sign in the little garden outside the church says:

Sign Broken / Message / inside this / Sunday.

It is a small building, with a single-bayed frontage reached by a flight of steps from the street, but there is a path to access it via the grounds of the school house next door on its left. The chapel was founded by Henry George Oliver, who was the leader of its congregation until his death in 1947.

There is a plaque above the doorway of the church but it is too eroded to read. There is also a plaque on the gable of the school room, which says 'W.W. & H Union School 1863'. The initials refer to William Woodward, a Wotton clothier, and his wife Hannah, the founders of the school. Now or formerly Free Church.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
