Cemeteries

This Church has (or had) a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1842, and we understand it is still open.

A history of the Baptist Church in Cinderford is available on the Forest of Dean Family History website, under Documents and Articles -> Stories and Articles. Notable dates are the church's foundation in 1842, and the laying of the foundation stone of the present building, on 10th August 1859.

As can be seen from the photographs, it is a huge building, with 5 stories to the rear portion, occupying the downward slope towards the river valley. The graveyard is extensive, but it does not appear to be still in use. [Source: John Williams]

Denomination

Now or formerly Baptist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
