We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.
Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded before 1878, and we understand it is still open.

Old Maps show this labelled as a Methodist (New Connexion) Chapel, and by 1917, a United Methodist Church. The next series of Maps, dated 1938, label it as "Methodist Church", the same as the Methodist Chapel in Chapel Street (now demolished), so seemingly they both survived the merger of Wesleyan, Primitive Methodists and United Methodists to form the Methodist Church of Great Britain in 1932, at least for a time.
In the present day, the congregation worshipping here are probably the Evangelical Christians described as meeting at "The New Tupton Christian Centre" in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010), so it is probable it no longer belongs to the Methodist Church. A Building certified for worship as NEW TUPTON CHRISTIAN CENTRE, Queen Victoria Road, New Tupton, Chesterfield, was registered in The London Gazette on 31st August 2000 (p.9678) as "registered for solemnising marriages therein", the announcement dated 24th August 2000, indicating the time the sale, or merger took place.
There is a photograph of it as New Tupton Christian Centre on the Geograph website. The New Tupton Evangelical Church appears to be its most recent title, as shown on a board attached to the Church, captured on Google StreetView of 2012.

Search Tips:

You can specify either a Place, or OS Grid Reference to search for. When you specify a Place, only entries for that place will be returned, with Places of Worship listed in alphabetical order. If you specify a Grid Reference, Places of Worship in the immediate vicinity will be listed, in order of distance from the Grid Reference supplied. Thus you can search for 'Methodist', but not 'Wesleyan Methodist' or 'Primitive Methodist'. 'Multi-denominational' includes Ecumenical Partnerships, and 'Miscellaneous' means anything not covered by other broad classes.
