Cemeteries We believe the Chapel did NOT have a graveyard. Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all. Church History This Place of Worship was founded in 1833, but we understand it was closed before 1914. This Chapel, in Mill Street, is labelled on Old Maps as "Primitive Methodist", and is presumably the forerunner of today's Sandiacre Methodist Church, in Butt Street. The return to the Religious Census of 1851 (HO 129/444/4/7/22) is for a separate building, which is not used exclusively as a place of worship. It had free seating for 120, and 45 "other" sittings, with no standing room; and the average congregation was 60 to afternoon and evening services, with 63 and 30 Sunday Scholars respectively. The return was completed by Joseph Richards, its Steward, who lived in Sandiacre. There is a separate entry in this database for its replacement, in Butt Street. It was built some time before 1914. • You can restrict the search to classes of Denomination. The exact denomination is always shown in the results, although the search is for broad types. Thus you can search for 'Methodist', but not 'Wesleyan Methodist' or 'Primitive Methodist'. 'Multi-denominational' includes Ecumenical Partnerships, and 'Miscellaneous' means anything not covered by other broad classes.
