We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1897, and we understand it is still open.

Derbyshire Record Office's catalogue of Church of England Registers tells us that St Augustine's parish was originally part of St Chad's. It was licensed for baptisms from 1897, and for marriages from 1908, when it was created into a separate parish. The list includes records of baptisms 1898-1952, and marriages 1908-1955. More recent records are, presumably still held by the Church.

Kelly's Directory of 1912 describes the Church, in Upper Dale Road, as opening in 1897. It is of red brick with Coxbench stone dressings, in the Early Decorated style; and consists of a chancel and nave with aisles, and at the time provided 900 sittings. The living, in 1912, was a vicarage in the gift of the vicar of St Chad's, Derby, and had been held since 1908 by the Rev. William Alfred Knight, chaplain of Derby workhouse.

Now or formerly Church of England.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
