Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1998, and we understand it is still open.

It is not known when this building, now belonging to the Salvation Army, was built. A Meeting Room was shown at this location on Old Maps as early as 1898, which by 1961 was known as "Bethel Gospel Mission"; but the present building is probably a replacement, as it looks to be late 20th century.
The following notice in The London Gazette of 28th January 1998 (p.1017) recorded its registration for marriages:
A building certified for worship named THE SALVATION ARMY STAVELEY CORPS, Wharf Lane, Lowgates, Staveley, in the registration district of Chesterfield in the Non-Metropolitan County of Derbyshire, was on 13th January 1998, registered for solemnising marriages therein pursuant to section 41 of the Marriage Act 1949, as amended by section 1(1) of the Marriage Acts Amendment Act 1958. In lieu of a building now disused and the registration cancelled thereof. Dated 20th January 1998.
The disused building was, I believe, in Staveley High Street, The Salvation Army had been meeting there since 1934.

Search Tips:

You can specify either a Place, or OS Grid Reference to search for. When you specify a Place, only entries for that place will be returned, with Places of Worship listed in alphabetical order. If you specify a Grid Reference, Places of Worship in the immediate vicinity will be listed, in order of distance from the Grid Reference supplied. The default is to list 10, but you can specify How Many you want to see, up to a maximum of 100.

You can specify entries with ('Yes') or without ('No') photographs.

'Multi-denominational' includes Ecumenical Partnerships, and 'Miscellaneous' means anything not covered by other broad classes.
