We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1848, and we understand it is still open.

Derbyshire Record Office's Non-Conformist Register Guide records All Saints Catholic Church as established in 1848, and rebuilt in 1887. They hold records of baptisms for the period 1876-1908.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 25th May 1849 (p.1719) records its registration for marriages:

I HEREBY give notice, that the Roman Catholic Chapel, situated at Belle-vue, in the township of Offcote and Underwood, in the county of Derby, has been duly licensed for the solemnization of marriages. Dated 23rd May 1849. (Signed) Richard Holland, Superintendent Registrar, Ashbourne District.

Note: the present-day Ashbourne appears to have evolved from separate townships. "Offcote and Underwood" was described in Kelly's Directory of 1932 as "a liberty and township of Ashbourne, [and] a very scattered district, extending from the north side of the town to Kniveton". The township also contained Sandybrook Hall, 1¼ miles from Ashbourne station, [in 1932] built over 100 years ago, and standing in picturesque grounds, surrounded by high yew hedges of probably the same date as the house.

Now or formerly Roman Catholic.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Ashbourne, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.

The above links were selected and reviewed at the time I prepared the information, but please be aware their content may vary, or disappear entirely. These factors are outside my control.
