Cemeteries We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard. Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all. Church History This Place of Worship was founded before 1900, but we understand it was closed before 1985. This building, or an earlier one at this position, is marked as a Mission Room on Old OS Maps of 1900 onwards. It is now in secular ownership; however there is a datestone in the gable of the entrance porch, which names it as "The Mission", and provides a date (presumably of renovation or rebuilding) of 1985. It is not mentioned in any of Kelly's Directories in my possession, so its denominational adherence may never be known for sure, but it would seem, given its position and nomenclature that it was a chapel of ease of St Luke's parish church in Heage. Denomination Now or formerly Church of England. If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
