We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1870, but we understand it was closed in 1982.

A Document Avon Extensive Urban Survey 1996 - Marshfield (PTE070180.pdf) available (in 2014) on South Gloucestershire Council website, records that Marshfield Baptist Chapel on Back Lane was opened in 1870, and closed in 1982; and afterwards converted into a private dwelling. The document also notes that their source of information, Non-conformist chapels of Northavon - a Gazetteer, by M.G. Stanbrook & C.M Powney (1989) did not mention it having a burial ground.

Curiously, however it is still listed in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010), named "Ebenezer", with a congregation of "Particular Baptists"!

It is built of stone, with a central porch, on either side of which are a pair of round-arched windows. There are similar windows in the sides, and a Venetian window above the porch. The conversion to domestic occupation was completed with the addition of a stone built garage to the left side of the building.

Now or formerly Baptist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
