This Church has (or had) a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1869, and we understand it is still open.

St Michael's Church was built in 1869, at a cost of £1,137, providing accomodation for 122. The building apparently replaced an earlier church built by the Hanbury family of Little Marcle Court, at the beginning of the 18th century - Littlebury's directory says it was inconveniently situated, so presumably was not on the present site. The Post Office Directory of Herefordshire of 1856 confirms it was also dedicated to St Michael, and that it was "an old plain stone edifice, with a small tower which is completely covered by ivy". There were 2 bells, and "the chancel has been repaired and beautified, and a new eastern window put in, at the expense of the rector, the Rev. John Jones".
