Cemeteries

This Church has/had a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1864, but we don't know whether or not it is still open.

The present church of St John dates from a rebuilding by Thomas Nicholson of 1864-5. The Post Office Directory of Herefordshire, of 1856 says that the church of that time was "a very ancient and remarkable building, in the Norman style; the lower is stone; was rebuilt in 1840, and contains 3 bells; it has a nave, chancel, apse, porch, an ancient font, and three modern tablets."

There may be more information available by by selecting one or more of the accompanying images on the right.

Denomination

Now or formerly Church of England.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
