Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded before 1937, but we understand it was closed in 1991.

The position of this Methodist Church is indicated on Old Maps between 1937 and 1960. Its closure was noted in The London Gazette of 4th December 1991 (p.18628):

The Registrar General, being satisfied that COTON PARK METHODIST CHURCH, Coton Park, Linton, in the registration district of Swadlincote, in the Non-Metropolitan County of Derbyshire is no longer used as a place of worship by the congregation on whose behalf it was on 20th October 1955, registered for marriages in accordance with the Marriage Act 1949, (as amended) has cancelled the registration. Dated 26th November 1991.

Derbyshire Record Office's Non-Conformist Register Guide includes registers of baptisms 1941-1990, and marriages 1957-1988 (listed as "Coton Park, Methodist Chapel, D4702).

Denomination

Now or formerly Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
