Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1878, though it is now closed, but we don't yet know when.

Listed in of Derby City Council's Traffic Street / Siddalls Road, Derby Archaeological Assessment, where it is described as: "Former Primitive Methodist Chapel, Green Lane. Built in 1878 by Giles and Brookhouse, ground floor now crudely converted to retail", NGR: SK 35212 36023 (p.18)

The building has a sign "Quicksilver", and used to be one of a chain of amusement arcades but is now (2011) empty. There is another photograph of the building on the Pictures of Derby website ('Green Lane' area), showing "ornate brickwork on what is now the Quicksilver arcade". It really is quite a splendid building, though probably not appreciated at ground level, surrounded as it is on all sides.

Denomination

Now or formerly Primitive Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
