Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1983, but we understand it was closed in 2017.

The Christ the Rock movement began in 1983, in Yate's new housing estates. Meetings have taken place in various venues since then, and an attempt was made in the early 1990s to develop two separate congregations, but in 2014, when I first prepared this account, just one Sunday morning service is held, in the Main Hall of Yate International Academy (formerly King Edmund Community School).

The above is a very brief summary of a History available on the Church's website at the time (under an "About Us" menu item). It would appear, judging by the last record of the website held by the "Wayback Machine" (23 Feb 2017), that they changed their website address, and probably their meeting place, as in early 2019, their address is 88 Station Rd, Yate, Bristol BS37 4PH.

Denomination

Now or formerly Christians.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

You can specify either a Place, or OS Grid Reference to search for. When you specify a Place, only entries for that place will be returned, with Places of Worship listed in alphabetical order. You can further refine your search by supplying other search terms.

Please note the above provides a search of selected fields in the Gloucestershire section of the Places of Worship Database on this site (churchdb.gukutils.org.uk) only. For other counties, or for a full search of the Database, you might like to try the site's Google Custom Search, which includes full webpage content.
