This Church has (or had) a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in the 12th century, and we understand it is still open.

The following information about the Church has been provided to accompany the photographs on the right. A list of people who have supplied the information is included in the Acknowledgements, below.

[Image 1] This building like that at its “Great” neighbour is a former monastic priory church. Here only the central tower and the east end of the church survive, much plainer yet also remodelled in the new fashionable style of the 15th century. This church is enchantingly situated against the Malvern Hills, and approaching from the east seems completely isolated. Yet the church is open and welcoming to visitors.[1]

[Image 3] The Priory, now dedicated to St Giles, originally served a Benedictine Priory. The roof-line of its Norman nave, which was destroyed after the Dissolution can be seen on this photograph. The tower, chancel and transepts were added during the 14th century; however chancel and transepts are now in ruins, and the arches to them blocked up.

[Image 4] This rather dramatic photograph shows the Priory nestling amidst the Malvern Hills.[2]

Now or formerly Church of England.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
