We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.
Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded before 1981, and we understand it is still open.

Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010) states the Church belongs to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches, whilst the former Derby Church Net website recorded it simply as Independent.
The following notice appeared in The London Gazette of 19th March 1981 (p.3984) indicating it was opened by then:
A building certified for worship named HOLMGATE EVANGELICAL CHURCH, Valley Road, Holmgate, Clay Cross, in the registration district of Chesterfield in the Non-Metropolitan County of Derbyshire, was on 10th March 1981 registered for solemnizing marriages therein pursuant to section 41 of the Marriage Act 1949, as amended by section 1(1) of the Marriage Acts Amendment Act 1958.. Dated 16th March 1981.
Derbyshire Record Office's Non-Conformist Register Guide includes a register of baptisms at Holmgate Methodist Church the period 1954-1972. Although it is not marked on Old Maps, this may have been the forerunner of today's Evangelical Church, though that is by no means certain.

Search Tips:

You can specify either a Place, or OS Grid Reference to search for. When you specify a Place, only entries for that place will be returned, with Places of Worship listed in alphabetical order. If you specify a Grid Reference, Places of Worship in the immediate vicinity will be listed, in order of distance from the Grid Reference supplied. You can restrict the search to classes of Denomination. The exact denomination is always shown in the results, although the search is for broad types. Thus you can search for 'Methodist', but not 'Wesleyan Methodist' or 'Primitive Methodist'. 'Multi-denominational' includes Ecumenical Partnerships, and 'Miscellaneous' means anything not covered by other broad classes.
