Church History This Cemetery or Burial Ground was founded in 1897, and we understand it is still open. This Cemetery serves Somercotes, Riddings and Swanwick. Kelly's Directory of 1932 relates that "a cemetery of about 4 acres, situated at Lea Brooks, was opened in 1895, and is managed by a Burial Board of 8 members, representing the Urban District Council of Somercotes and Riddings, and Swanwick Wards: the mortuary chapel is a neat structure of brick with stone facings in the Gothic style, and was erected at a cost of over £600". Derbyshire Record Office hold registers of burials in the Cemetery for the period 1895-1997. It is currently (2013) managed by Amber Valley Borough Council. Denomination Now or formerly a Cemetery. • You can specify a church or chapel's Dedication, to restrict entries to those containing the term you supply as a dedication. So for instance, 'John' would return 'St John', 'St Mary and St John', 'St John the Divine' &c.
• You can specify a Street address, and likewise 'George' will return George Place, St George's Street, George and Dragon, &c.
• You can restrict the search to classes of Denomination. The exact denomination is always shown in the results, although the search is for broad types. Thus you can search for 'Methodist', but not 'Wesleyan Methodist' or 'Primitive Methodist'. 'Multi-denominational' includes Ecumenical Partnerships, and 'Miscellaneous' means anything not covered by other broad classes.
