Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded before 1928, and we understand it is still open.

There is a photograph of Rowland Methodist Church and Community Hall on the Geograph website. It is situated on the east side of James Street, close to its junction with Dundee Road.
The building is of brick, with a central entrance, covering which is a wide porch, entered by a double door. Above this is a large "Gothic" stained window. There is no visible datestone, but it was in existence by 1928, as the following notice in The London Gazette of 4th January 1929 (p.194) indicates:
A Separate Building, duly certified for religious worship, named ROWLAND MEMORIAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, situated at James-street, Swadlincote, in the civil parish of Swadlincote, in the county of Derby, in Burton-upon-Trent registration district, was, on the 31st December, 1928, registered for solemnizing marriages therein, pursuant to 6 & 7 Wm. IV, c.85. Dated 2nd January, 1929.
"Rowland Methodist Church, Midway, Community Hall" is next door to it, on the right, and this appears to have been built more recently. There is also a car park, on the other side of which is Midway Christian Spiritualist Church.
