Church History

This Cemetery or Burial Ground was founded about 1779, but we understand it was closed before 1881.

Maps of 1881 show quite a large Burial Ground, enclosed by the bend in Breach Road; however by 1916, it is restricted to a smaller area, adjacent to Breach Farm. In the present day, this small area appears to have been preserved, but the remainder of the original plot is occupied by modern housing.

The Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group have transcribed the burials here for the period 1779-1812; and to all accounts, there was also a Meeting House associated with the Burial Ground. This is referred to in Arthur William Davison's book Derby: its Rise and Progress as predating the Meeting House in Derby, erected in St Helen's Street in 1808; so possibly the one in Codnor was closed shortly after that, as only the Burial Ground is marked on Old Maps.

Denomination

Now or formerly a Cemetery (Quaker).

In most cases this will be a record of its original consecration.
