Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

We don't know when this Place of Worship was founded, but we understand it was closed by 1966.

The closure of "Full Gospel Hall, Main Street, Carr Vale, Bolsover" was recorded in The London Gazette of 21st January 1966 (p.820) in a list of buildings which "have wholly ceased to be used as places of worship by the congregations on whose behalf they were certified". The date of its original certification was given as 6th July 1939, but unfortunately, the exact location of the building remains elusive, as it is not, to my knowledge, shown on any Old Maps of the period.

Maps of 1916-1918 show a Mission Church (Congregational) on the east side of Main Street, so one possibility is that the Gospel Hall congregation took over this building, as later Maps show the Congregational Church on the opposite (west) side of the street. By then, a separate group of buildings, labelled as "The Lambert Social Service Centre", have been erected adjacent to (south of) the Mission, so another possibility is that a Gospel Hall congregation met at the Centre.

The only other reference to the Lambert Centre that I have been able to discover is on A.N. (Neil) Bridgewater's Local History & Mining website, which includes it in a list for "Shopping in Carr Vale, 1930's". W. Brown, of Main Street, was its Secretary.

Denomination

Now or formerly Mission Hall.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

Resources

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Carr Vale, Bolsover, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.

The above links were selected and reviewed at the time I prepared the information, but please be aware their content may vary, or disappear entirely. These factors are outside my control.

Please choose a County by selecting one of the Tabs below.
Note: you MUST choose a County - searching all four at once is not an option!

You can specify either a Place, or OS Grid Reference to search for. When you specify a Place, only entries for that place will be returned, with Places of Worship listed in alphabetical order. If you specify a Grid Reference, Places of Worship in the immediate vicinity will be listed, in order of distance from the Grid Reference supplied. The default is to list 10, but you can specify How Many you want to see, up to a maximum of 100.

You can further refine your search by supplying other search terms.

Please note the above provides a search of selected fields in the Derbyshire section of the Places of Worship Database on this site (churchdb.gukutils.org.uk) only. For other counties, or for a full search of the Database, you might like to try the site's Google Custom Search, which includes full webpage content.
