We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded by 1944, and we understand it is still open.

Frecheville is a "modern" estate, named for the Frecheville family, formerly lords of the manor of Staveley. The area it covers was anciently in the parish of Beighton, a parish which also included Birley, and Hackenthorpe. The whole was transferred to the City of Sheffield in 1967, and since 1974 has belonged to Sheffield diocese.

The estate is believed to have been laid out in the 1930s by the firm of Henry Boot Ltd. Provision of a parish church, library, a fishing pond and a community centre were part of the deal. Its Methodist Church had been built by 1944, as the following notice in The London Gazette of 15th August 1941, p.4745 indicates:

A Separate Building, duly certified for religious worship, named METHODIST CHURCH situated at Churchdale Road, Frecheville in the civil parish of Beighton in Chesterfield registration district in the county of Derby was on the 5th August 1941, registered for solemnizing marriages therein, pursuant to 6 and 7 Will. IV, c.85. Dated 13th August 1941.

Now or formerly Methodist.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Frecheville, Beighton, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.

The above links were selected and reviewed at the time I prepared the information, but please be aware their content may vary, or disappear entirely. These factors are outside my control.
