Cemeteries We don't know whether this Chapel had a graveyard. Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all. Church History This Place of Worship was founded in 1874, but we understand it was closed before 1919. Kelly's Directory of 1895 records a Primitive Methodist Chapel erected in Unstone in 1874, with seats for 150. Its position is shown on OS Maps 1877, and 1883, bordering the plot belonging to the Red House, and apparently with no access from the road. Even so, it appears to have been quite substantial - a rectangular plan, with smaller rooms tacked on to the north west corner, the east, and south sides; and with sittings for 150. Perhaps due to its inaccessibility, it appears to have had only a limited life, as by the time of the next available detailed map (1919) it is no longer shown. • You can restrict the search to classes of Denomination. The exact denomination is always shown in the results, although the search is for broad types. Thus you can search for 'Methodist', but not 'Wesleyan Methodist' or 'Primitive Methodist'. 'Multi-denominational' includes Ecumenical Partnerships, and 'Miscellaneous' means anything not covered by other broad classes.
