We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded by 1938, and we understand it is still open.

Ivy Church is listed in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010) with a congregation of "Assemblies of God". The main part of the building is of stone, with a tower at the western end having an Italianate profile, though not open to the elements at the top. There is an archway at the side painted in white, with a tall wrought iron gate, which adds to the "continental" effect. The sides are of three bays, with "classic" round-arched windows, the style of which must surely owe its origins to the building's original use - as the Chapel to the Asylum for Poor Orphan Girls, adjacent to the Orphanage, and built, according to Kelly's Directory of 1920, in 1791. In contrast, a modern extension to the rear, in a 1960s style, obviously belongs to today's Church.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 8th April 1938 (p.2388) records its registration for marriages:

A Separate Building, duly certified for religious worship, named IVY FULL GOSPEL CHURCH situated at Ashley Hill in the civil parish of Bristol in Bristol registration district in the county borough of Bristol was on the 5th April 1938, registered for solemnizing marriages therein, pursuant to 6 and 7 Wm. IV., c.85. Dated the 6th April 1938.

Now or formerly Assemblies of God.
