We believe the Chapel did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1851, but we understand it was closed before 1914.

This Wesleyan Chapel is recorded in Kelly's Directory of Bristol of 1902 in Spring Place, a cul-de-sac off Spring Street - at the time the only recorded property. The Bristol Town Plans of 1884-1885 show it as "Spring Street Place", and with 6 other buildings, 3 on either side of the Chapel. It was said to have seats for 300, and to give an idea of the scale, the whole of Spring Place lay parallel to the south elevation of St Luke's Church, on the south-east corner of the junction of Spring Street with York Road.

A list of Places of Worship on the Bristol & Avon Family History Society website records the Chapel as "Wesley" and founded in 1851, as does Phil Draper's ChurchCrawler website. It is not recorded in Kelly's Directory of Bristol of 1914, suggesting it had closed by then.

Now or formerly Wesleyan Methodist.
