Cemeteries

We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded by 1992, and we understand it is still open.

This Church occupies the former Sunday School building of Matlock Congregational Church, which closed in 1990.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 30th September 1992 (p.16349) recorded its registration for marriages:

A Building certified for worship named ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH, Main Hall, 29 Chesterfield Road, Matlock, in the registration district of Bakewell in the Non-Metropolitan County of Derbyshire, was on 10th September 1992, registered for solemnising marriages therein pursuant to section 41 of the Marriage Act 1949 as amended by section 1(1) of the Marriage Acts Amendment Act 1958, in lieu of Torside Hall in Jackson Road now disused and the registration cancelled thereof. Dated 25th September 1992.

It is also known as "The Dales Christian Centre", or, rather, listed as such in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010).

Further details of its forerunner, Matlock Congregational Church, are available on Ann Andrews' excellent webpage of Matlock Churches and Chapels, and also elsewhere in this database.

Denomination

Now or formerly Assemblies of God.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.
