We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded before 1932, and we understand it is still open.

Beighton Gospel Hall is situated on the west side of Eckington Road, a short distance south of its junction with West Street. It is a rectangular building of sand-coloured brick, with 3 tall rectangular windows in the front, behind which are some attractive checkered blinds, giving the appearance of stained glass. The entrance is on the right side, which also has 3 small windows. There is an extension at the rear, resulting in a sizeable building. It backs onto West Street, but is screened from there by a bank of trees, which from the current (2015) Google Satellite View can be seen to be in blossom.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 7th August 1964 (p.6713) recorded its registration for marriages:

A building certified for worship named GOSPEL HALL, Eckington Road, Beighton in the registration district of Chesterfield in the county of Derby, was on 29th July 1964, registered for solemnising marriages therein pursuant to section 41 of the Marriage Act, 1949, as amended! by section 1(1) of the Marriage Acts Amendment Act, 1958. Dated 31st July 1964.

It is recorded in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010) with a congregation of "Brethren", so it seems probable that it was founded by 1932, as a chapel for Plymouth Brethren is recorded in the entry for Beighton in Kelly's Directory of that year.

Now or formerly Brethren.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Beighton, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.

The above links were selected and reviewed at the time I prepared the information, but please be aware their content may vary, or disappear entirely. These factors are outside my control.
