Cemeteries

We believe the Church did NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

We don't know when this Place of Worship was founded, though it is now closed, but we don't yet know when.

Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010) record a meeting place for a congregation of Assemblies of God, named "Victoria Hall", and described as a room on the first floor of a building in Queen's Road. I have been unable to find out exactly where the building might have been, as to the best of my knowledge, it has not been marked on any Maps, nor is there any visible sign of it in the present day. There is, however, a long rectangular building on the north side of the street, to the west of its junction with Oak Road, which to some extent fits the description, as it is labelled on Old Maps of the 1950s and 1960s as "Hall". Its frontage in 1969 was between numbers 112 and 114, in a sequence of even numbers, so not #113, as that would have been on the opposite side of the road. In the present day, although the hall appears to be still in existence, behind the building line, the frontage, which has a separate entrance, appears to have been incorporated into the house next door.

Early Maps (for instance of 1898), show Queen's Road labelled as "Station Road, and with very few buildings. By 1923, it had changed its name to the present Queen's Road, and a few more houses had been built, but not the Hall.

Denomination

Now or formerly Assemblies of God.

If more than one congregation has worshipped here, or its congregation has united with others, in most cases this will record its original dedication.

Resources

I have found many websites of use whilst compiling the information for this database. Here are some which deserve mention as being of special interest for Beighton, and perhaps to Local History and Places of Worship as a whole.

The above links were selected and reviewed at the time I prepared the information, but please be aware their content may vary, or disappear entirely. These factors are outside my control.

Please choose a County by selecting one of the Tabs below.
Note: you MUST choose a County - searching all four at once is not an option!

You can specify either a Place, or OS Grid Reference to search for. When you specify a Place, only entries for that place will be returned, with Places of Worship listed in alphabetical order. If you specify a Grid Reference, Places of Worship in the immediate vicinity will be listed, in order of distance from the Grid Reference supplied. The default is to list 10, but you can specify How Many you want to see, up to a maximum of 100.

You can further refine your search by supplying other search terms.

Please note the above provides a search of selected fields in the Derbyshire section of the Places of Worship Database on this site (churchdb.gukutils.org.uk) only. For other counties, or for a full search of the Database, you might like to try the site's Google Custom Search, which includes full webpage content.
