We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1956, and we understand it is still open.

This is the successor to Old King Street Baptist Church, in the City, which was demolished in 1956 for redevelopment. Phil Draper, on his ChurchCrawler website records that it retained the name of "Old King Street Baptist" until the 1990s. First services were held in (pre-existing?) halls in Cairns Road, until a new building was opened in 1957.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 7th May 1957 (p.2746) recorded its registration for marriages:

A Building certified for worship named OLD KING STREET BAPTIST CHURCH, Cairns Road, Westbury Park, in the registration district of Bristol, in the county borough of Bristol, was on 1st May, 1957, registered for solemnising marriages therein pursuant to section 42 of the Marriage Act, 1949, in place of Baptist Chapel, Old King Street, now disused. Dated 3rd May 1957.

The body of the Church is of 4 bays, with an entrance from the south, over which is a three-light window with a rounded lintel. There is a narrow extension at the rear, which connects it to what appears to be a Hall, set at right angles - overall, as Phil says, "a building of its era ... very similar to the other work in the city of Eustace Button, but I have no firm attribution to him".
