We believe the Church does NOT have a graveyard.

Note: any church within an urban environment may have had its graveyard closed after the Burial Act of 1853. Any new church built after that is unlikely to have had a graveyard at all.

Church History

This Place of Worship was founded by 1960, and we understand it is still open.

"Destiny" is described as "Knowle's Pentecostal Church" on the sign over the doorway. It is a long single-storey building, situated on the south-west corner of the junction of Leinster Avenue with Broadbury Road, opposite the Police Station. The main body of the building is red brick, but the front, and the base of the sides is finished in cream stucco. There is wide doorway at the front (facing Leinster Road), four windows in each of the sides; and the paintwork is dark blue. There is also a second smaller building, facing towards the corner of the two roads, and therefore set at an angle to the main building. It looks older, so I wonder if it was the original Church.

The following notice in The London Gazette of 15th January 1960 (p.479) recorded its registration for marriages:

A building certified for worship named KNOWLE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH, Leinster Avenue, Knowle, in the registration district of Bristol, in the county borough of Bristol, was on 12th January 1960, registered for solemnising marriages therein pursuant to section 41 of the Marriage Act, 1949, as amended by section 1(1) of the Marriage Acts Amendment Act, 1958. Dated 13th January 1960.

It is listed in Places recorded by the Registrar General under the provisions of the Places of Worship Registration Act 1855 (2010) with a congregation of "Assemblies of God".

Now or formerly Assemblies of God.
